CARISTA
The hidden gem of The Netherlands is without a doubt Carista. The dj-sets of the Dutch-Surinamese are swinging easily between electronic rhythms and soulful grooves. Her diverse selection goes from hiphop, house, bass heavy sounds to disco, jazz and everything in between. By doing so she is a very welcome DJ to play for the finest dancefloors of Dutch clubs like De School, Claire, De Marktkantine, BAR and BIRD but also renowned iconic festivals such as Lowlands, Appelsap Festival. Slowly but surely she’s also crossing the borders of Holland to play in venues in Belgium and Germany. There is not one specific box where you can put Carista in maybe only in the box ‘constant high quality’ what makes this woman only even more interesting and special, because she challenges herself to be innovative every time. As a music enthusiast at first she collected and still collects all kinds of records for years and decided in July 2015 to host her own radioshow on online radiostation Red Light Radio because she felt that something was missing soundwise at that particular time. She immediately became a resident and people started noticing her unique sound, impressive record collection and hosting skills. When BBC1 and BBC1xtra radiohost Benji B choose to broadcast her recording of her dj set on Appelsap Festival at his Deviation stage in his popular show things surely started to pop off. Like the chance to play a vinyl only instore session at Rush Hour, one of the best record stores of Amsterdam, for Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM pop up station during Amsterdam Dance Event 2016 or to be part of the European tour of the amazing artist Fatima Yamaha for two days in a row soon after Carista dropped her very extraordinary first instalment of her ‘Modern Intimacy’ mixseries. Making radio is the core of what Carista loves to do with all her heart and since September 2017 she also holds a monthly residency on London-based online radiostation NTS. In both shows, on Red Light Radio and NTS, the Utrecht-native shares timeless and exciting music from the (inter)national music scene in its broadest sense with her listeners. Carista, a versatile selector who isn’t afraid to surprise the crowd whenever, wherever by doing what she is best – sharing her infectious positive energy as a human being and her taste in good music to you and yours. It’s for sure that she is most certainly one to keep your eyes and ears on.
